Grizzlies Hangs On to One-Point Victory over Blue Streaks at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse
The Wadsworth Grizzlies girls basketball team clinched a one-point victory over the visiting Uniontown Lake Blue Streaks 27-26 at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse for the Cavs Elite HS Hoops program presented by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Prior to the upcoming game between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Cleveland Cavaliers, the 14-5 Lady Grizzlies held on to win over the 15-1 Blue Streaks in a defensive slugfest. Senior Guard Brooke Baughman led the Grizzlies with 10 points, while senior Guard Serenitee Johnson led the Blue Streaks with 13 points on the Cavalier court.
Fighting Irish Hangs On to Victory over Stow-Munroe Falls
The St. Vincent St. Mary boys basketball team survived a one point 59-58 victory over the Stow-Munroe Falls Bulldogs. After making a comeback after being down by 10 with a 1:30 left, the Bulldogs called their final timeout with 30 seconds in the game while down by 3. Junior guard Cam Marconi was forced for a layup with 4 seconds left before the Fighting Irish sat in the inbounds to run the clock out and clinch the victory. Sophomore Guard Decarlo Prince finished with 15 points for the Fighting Irish, while senior Forward Reece Raymond-Smith led the night with 25 points for the Bulldogs.
Stow Wins Big on Senior Night over McKinley
The Lady Bulldogs of Stow-Munroe Falls clinched their 10th straight on senior night over the Lady Bulldogs of Canton McKinley in a 41 point blowout 73-32. After securing their 8th consecutive Suburban League National title in the 65-25 win over Nordonia, the Bulldogs did not settle down in their last home game of the regular season. Senior Guards Anna Hurst and Alaina Ray finished with 15 points each, while sophomore Guard Mya Taylor led the night with 17 points.
Magics Completes 4th Quarter Comeback over Black Tigers
The Barberton boys basketball team completed the comeback in the 4th quarter to stay at the 1st seed in conference play over the Cuyahoga Falls Black Tigers. After 3 quarters of Black Tiger basketball containing the Magics to only 34 points, the Magics’ exploded for 23 points in the final 8 minutes to clinch victory 57-49 and stretch their conference winning streak to 8. Junior Forward De’Arion Holley and junior Guard Kameryn Kennerly finished with 15 points each for the Magics, while senior Forward Drew Huffman led the night with 17 points for the Black Tigers.
Lady Tigers Spreads Wealth in Win over Lady Magics
Following the Magic’s win the next day, the Lady Black Tigers captured the victory over the Lady Magics 52-33. Following the celebrations of the seniors on both teams, the Black Tigers handled business in the win, finishing with 4 10+ point performances. Sophomore Forward Isabel Fenn led the pack with 14 points, while senior Guard Darlene Smith followed with 12 points. Junior Forward Lori Huffman also added 11 points, and senior Guard Trista Lee finished with 10 points. For the Magics, freshman Guard Taylor Miller finished with 11 points, while senior Guard Alexys Anzaldi and senior Forward Alyssa Curry followed with 6 points each.
Hudson Hockey Ices Match with 4 Third Period Goals in 8-4 Win over Stow-Munroe Falls
The Hudson Explorers Hockey team defeated the Stow-Munroe Falls Bulldogs 8-4. In a match of 11 total penalties, the Bulldogs made a 3 goal comeback in the 2nd period to tie the score 4-4, before the Explorers finished with 4 unanswered goals to clinch victory over their conference rival. Junior Taizo Tosi led the game with 3 goals of the Explorers’ 8, while freshman Liam Shelien led the Bulldogs with 2 goals.
