Week 6 has arrived, and the highly anticipated Division II "Battle for the Bell" rivalry match between the Walsh Jesuit Warriors and the St. Vincent St. Mary Fighting Irish is underway. Both teams have had impressive seasons so far, heightening the excitement for this rivalry game.
Green Street Stadium is packed with fans in white and green, all eagerly watching the contest unfold. Walsh Jesuit made a strong start with a 55-yard run by running back Brock Sherman on the first play, followed by a 1-yard touchdown run, giving the Warriors an early lead. STVM tried to respond on their first possession but were halted with a turnover on downs.
The Warriors then advanced down the field, but quarterback Keller Moten's pass was intercepted by cornerback Danny Wildman, bringing the Fighting Irish offense back into play. However, a subsequent fumble was recovered by the Warriors, and Brock Sherman scored another 1-yard touchdown. St. Vincent St. Mary sought a comeback when Kai White returned the kickoff 90 yards, setting up a 3-yard touchdown run by running back DJ Johnson.
Midway through the 2nd quarter, Sherman suffered a leg injury and was sidelined for the rest of the game. This setback allowed other Warrior players to step up. Walsh Jesuit added two more touchdowns: an 8-yard reception by John Keough and a 2-yard run by Lucas Weaver, taking a 26-7 lead into halftime.
After the halftime band performances, St. Vincent St. Mary started the 2nd half with a 67-yard touchdown by DJ Johnson. However, the Warriors' defense proved too formidable, preventing any further scores by the Fighting Irish. On the offensive side, the Warriors added three more scores: a field goal by Freddie Marcell, a 21-yard run by Lucas Weaver, and a 15-yard run by Keller Moten.
As the clock ran out and teams lined up at midfield, the Warriors celebrated their victory by ringing "The Bell," joined by their coaches, cheerleaders, and devoted fans.
