Stow Girls Continue Dominance in 64-37 Win over Rival Hudson
The Stow-Munroe Falls girls basketball team clinched their second win of the season in a dominant victory against Suburban League Conference rival Hudson Explorers 64-37 on Wednesday night. The Bulldogs are coming off their 54-28 win at Massillon Perry, while the Explorers are coming off their 55-52 overtime win against Kenston.
First Half Nail-Bitter and Stow’s 2nd Half Rhythm
The first half of play concluded with Stow leading the Explorers 20-15. Bulldog Guard Rachel Frailey led the half with 6 points, while Guard Anna Hurst added 4 points. The Explorers finished the half behind Center Paige Sutton’s 6 points and Forward Erin McCormick’s 5 points.
In what felt like a nail-biter first half for the Stow fans, the second half was a sigh of relief as the Lady Bulldogs found their rhythm in the final 16 minutes. The Lady Bulldogs exploded to a 43-29 lead at the end of the third quarter behind Guard Alaina Ray’s 11 points. Despite a couple key plays in the fourth by the Explorers, the Bulldogs came out on top in the rivalry matchup 64-37.
Final Stats:
The Bulldogs finished the game scoring 44 points in the second half. Guard Alaina Ray led the team with 13 points on the night, while Sophomore Center Kennady Dodds added 12. Starters Senior Rachel Frailey, Senior Anna Hurst, and Junior Kadence Dodds also combined for 24 points on the night. The Bulldog bench also contributed positively adding 16 points to the total.
In the loss, Explorers Junior Center Paige Sutton finished the night with a team-high 11 points, while Junior Guard Erin McCormick added 10 of her own. Sophomore Forward Abby Meacham and Sophomore Guard Abby Henderson also combined for 12 points on the night.
What’s Next?
With the win, the Stow Bulldogs advanced to 2-0 on the season, and kicked off their Suburban League conference record 1-0. The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Baldwin Wallace University to take on the Gilmour Academy Lancers at the Cleveland Basketball Classic on December 2nd, Tip-Off @ 4:30pm. The Hudson Explorers will fall to 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in the Suburban League National Conference with the loss. The Explorers will travel to Twinsburg to take on the Lady Tigers on December 2nd. (JV @ 11am, Varsity @ 1pm)
