Tiffin Wins a Close One over Notre Dame College 57-54
The Tiffin Dragons Women’s basketball team ended their 2023 with a 57-54 win over the Notre Dame Lady Falcons. Going into the matchup, the Lady Dragons were coming off a 84-42 loss to Grand Valley State, while the Lady Falcons were coming off a 69-66 win over West Virginia Wesleyan College.
Tightly Knotted 1st Half:
After a first quarter that concluded with NDC leading over Tiffin 14-7, the Dragons responded with a 17 point quarter to decrease the margin to 3, going into the half down 27-24. NDC Guard Rachel Richardson finished the half with 7 points, while Guard Karli Ankler and Guard Cincere McDaniel added 5 points each. Dragons Forward Mahya Lindesmith finished the half with 6 points, while Guard Tomi Hinkle added 5 points.
Last Second Turnover:
Kicking off the 3rd quarter, the Lady Dragons came out swinging instantly, outsourcing the Lady Falcons 18-9 going into the 4th. Guard Catara Dejarnette led the charge with 5 points in the quarter, while Forward Grace Craig added 4. Down 6 going into the 4th quarter, the Lady Falcons went on a 9-1 run to regain the lead 47-45 at the 5 minute mark of the fourth. Tied at 52 each with 1:24 remaining, Tiffin went on a 5-0 before regaining the lead at 57-55 with 28 seconds left to go. After a pair of missed free throws, the Falcons grabbed the rebound with 7 seconds to go before losing control of the ball out of bounds for Tiffin to regain possession to secure the win in South Euclid.
Final Stats:
For the Lady Dragons, Guard Kirsten Williams finished the game with a 11 point and 10 rebound double-double, while Guard Catara Dejarnette followed with 10 points, and 7 rebounds. For the Lady Falcons, Forward Noel Weathers finished with a 10 point, 10 rebound 6 block and 5 steal performance, while Guard Rachel Richardson finished with 12 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals, and Guard Lilee Carlson adding 11 points, and 4 rebounds.
What’s Next?
With the win, the Tiffin Dragons advances to 4-8 on the season, as they will travel to Midland, Michigan to take on the Northwood Timberwolves on January 4th at 6pm. With the loss, the Notre Dame Falcons fell to 3-8, and will travel to Painesville, Ohio to take on the Lake Erie Storm on January 6th at 3pm.
