Raiders Withstands Yellow Jackets’ Sting in 20-16 Shootout
The Mount Union Women’s Lacrosse team defeated the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets in a 20-16 shootout. The Raiders, who came off a nail-biting 13-12 win over Otterbein, were looking to add another Ohio Athletic Conference regular season and tournament title to their resume, while the Yellow Jackets were coming off a 15-14 win over Capital.
The Purple Raiders stood their ground against their fellow conference foe in a 36 goal shootout, with junior Midfielder Mackenzie Kolstad and senior Attack Katie Clark leading the way with six goals and two assists each, while sophomore Attack Ella Nejad followed with five goals and senior Midfielder Eden Kesler adding two goals. During her six goals, Northeast Ohio native Katie Clark earned her 300th career goal and sent her to second all-time for points in program history. In the net, junior Abby Lindkvist picked up the win with four saves, while sophomore Abby Reagan finished the final 30 minutes with seven saves. Kolstad also led the way on the draw with 10 draw controls on the night.
For the Yellow Jackets, freshman Midfielder Clare Allic, senior All-OAC midfielder Deanna Loukas, sophomore Attack Mariana Melgoza, and freshman Attack Emma Northrup finished with three goals a piece. On the draw, Allic and Loukas finished with 6 each, while in the net, sophomore Caroline Potteiger finished with 12 saves.
With the win, the Purple Raiders advanced to a 8-3 record (3-1 OAC), while the Yellow Jackets fell to a 8-6 record (3-2 OAC).
