Flashback: Knights Takes the Holy War on Senior Night
The Archbishop Hoban Knights took down Akron rival St. Vincent St. Mary Fighting Irish to take the Holy War crown on senior night. Celebrating their two seniors Taylor Gerring and Giulia Scaglione and a monumental first pitch by STVM senior Alex Palmer, who has been battling a rare cancer known as Ewing Sarcoma, the two rivals took the field for a holy war showdown at the historic Firestone Stadium.
The Knights tallied 9 hits in the win, with senior Taylor Gerring (2-4, Triple, Run, RBI), junior Mya Akers (2-3, RBI), and freshman Nevaeh Peters (2-3, RBI) leading with 2 hits a piece, while senior Giulia Scaglione (1-2, Double, Run, RBI), freshman Gracelyn Schultz (1-3), and freshman Elli Weigand (1-3, Run, RBI) added a hit each. On the mound, freshman Gracelyn Schultz earned the win after striking out five batters, while allowing 6 hits for a run on one error and a walk in seven innings.
The Fighting Irish finished with 6 hits from the batter’s box, with sophomore Ella Kim (2-3, Run) leading with 2 hits, while junior Averie Mays (1-3), senior Sydney Shaker (1-3, RBI), freshman Cameron Eckroad (1-3, Double), and junior Lola Hall (1-3) added a hit each. On the mound, junior Kaidyn Schrader took the loss after pitching six innings, allowing 9 hits for 4 runs on 4 errors.
