Hilltoppers “Walks” Off over Indians at Historical Stadium
The Chardon Hilltoppers Baseball team defeated the Northwest Indians on a walk-off walk to win 4-3 at the historic Thurman Munson Memorial Stadium. Capping off a night of baseball at a historical stadium named after the 2x MLB World Series champion Akron native Thurman Munson, who passed away in 1979, the Hilltoppers walked their way in the 7th inning to steal the victory away from the Indians.
In the batter’s box, senior Logan Gunroe (Single), senior Ben Petrella (Single), and sophomore Jayden Buth (Double) finished with one hit each, while sophomore Ty Roediger touched home plate twice, junior Stone Fawcett once and junior Chad Prince walked the walk-off. On the mound, junior Kyle McCoy pitched 6.1 innings, allowing 9 hits for 3 runs and 3 errors, while walking 3 batters and striking out eight. Freshman Tim Robertson claimed the win striking out one batter in 0.2 innings.
For the Indians, junior Andrew Jones (2 Singles) and junior Sean Ritchey (Triple, Single) went 2 for 3 from the box, while junior Branded Miller (Single), senior Jake Wells (Triple, RBI), sophomore Jake Harness (Single), and sophomore Landon Stanich-Herren (Single) went 1 for 3. On the mound, junior Aidan Robinson pitched 6 innings, allowing 3 hits for 3 runs, while walking 3 batters and striking out four. Senior Hunter Langenfeld took the loss pitching 0.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 walks and struck out one.
