Bobcats Sweeps Doubleheader over Kent State
The Ohio Bobcats softball team swept the Kent State Golden Flashes in a midweek double-header series. The Bobcats combined for 11 runs on the day, while allowing only 3 from the Golden Flashes.
Game #1:Â
The Bobcats took the first game 7-1 over the Golden Flashes. After trailing in the 1st inning, the Bobcats went on to score 7 runs on 11 hits, with junior Lauren Yuhas scoring two of the seven runs. In the batter’s box, senior Yasmine Logan, freshman Brenna Farmer, and junior Emma Hoffner went 2 for 4, with Farmer collecting 2 RBIs and Logan knocking one over the fence, while freshman Outfielder Izzie Wilson went 2 for 3 for 1 RBI. On the baserunning, Yuhas snuck in two stolen bases, while Logan stole one. For the Golden Flashes, graduate student 3rd Baseman Alexandria Whitmore and sophomore Catcher Bri Despines went 2 for 3 from the batter’s box, with Whitmore hitting a triple and scoring in the 1st inning, giving the RBI to Despines. Sophomore Outfielder Carley Penner also went 1 for 3 from the box. On the mound, redshirt sophomore Skipp Miller earned the win to improve to 9-11 after pitching a full seven innings, allowing only 5 hits for a run, striking out 6 batters and walking one. Golden Flashes sophomore Macy Irelan fell to 7-5 with the loss, pitching 2.2 innings, allowing 6 hits for 4 runs, striking out one batter and walking two.Â
Game #2:
Following the first game, the Bobcats scored 4 runs on 6 hits to defeat the Golden Flashes 4-2. In the box, sophomore Outfielder Belle Hummel went 2 for 2 from the box, hitting a triple for an RBI in the 3rd, junior Catcher Emma Hoffner knocked a two-run homer and sophomore 3rd Baseman Shelby Westler (single), senior Shortstop Sydney Grein (triple), and junior Outfielder Cici Keidel (single) collected a hit each. Outfielder Yasmine Logan crossed home plate twice, while Keidel and Hoffner crossed once each. The Golden Flashes racked up 2 runs on 10 hits, with graduate student 3rd Baseman Alexandria Whitmore going 2 for 2, including a double for a RBI and a run, freshman Outfielder Kenzie Bromley going 3 for 3 for a run, Outfielder Carley Penner going 2 for 3 and Outfielder sophomore Brynn Libler going 2 for 4 for an RBI. On the mound, redshirt sophomore Skipp Miller earned her 2nd win of the day to improve to 10-11, pitching 3 innings for 2 strikeouts, while allowing 3 hits. Golden Flashes freshman Megan Nuechterlein fell to 11-5 with the loss, pitching 7 innings for 2 strikeouts, while allowing 6 hits for 4 runs and 2 errors and walking 2 batters.
With the series win, the Bobcats improved to 19-18 (7-6 MAC), while the Golden Flashes fell to 18-14 (4-6 MAC)
