Blue Streaks in Full Throttle: John Carroll's Commanding 59-7 Homecoming Victory
The 14th ranked John Carroll Blue Streaks, with a record of 2-1, faced off against the Wilmington College Quakers, standing at 3-1, in the Blue Streaks Homecoming game. This marked the 29th meeting between these two programs, and if history was any guide, the Blue Streaks had the upper hand.
Last year, the Blue Streaks left no room for doubt, shutting out the Quakers with a 59-0 win in Wilmington. This year, the story was similar. John Carroll continued their dominance, defeating the Quakers 59-7. They built on the momentum they showcased the previous week with a 34-7 win against Heidelberg and a 30-7 victory over Baldwin Wallace the week before that.
The game started out slow for both teams but it was just a build up for the fireworks that were soon to come for the Blue Streaks. In the first quarter, Matthew Buser dashed through the defense for an 8-yard touchdown, setting the tone for what was to come. The second quarter saw the Blue Streaks in full throttle, with four touchdowns, including a 37-yard pass to Dorian Facen Jr. from Joe Collins.
The Quakers, who haven't tasted victory against the Blue Streaks since 2009, managed to get on the board in the third quarter. Ashton Griffith caught a 1-yard pass from Derek Larimer, giving the Quaker fans something to cheer about. However, that was the only moment of respite for Wilmington as John Carroll continued their onslaught, ending the game with a commanding 59-7 victory.
A glance at the stats reveals the story of the game:
John Carroll's offense was unstoppable, racking up 551 total yards.
The Blue Streaks' rushing game was particularly potent, with 254 yards on 47 attempts, averaging an impressive 5.4 yards per rush.
On the defensive side, John Carroll was just as dominant, recording 3 sacks, 3 interceptions, and forcing a fumble.
Looking ahead, the Blue Streaks will hit the road to face Marietta next week. History is on their side; John Carroll has never lost to Marietta and defeated them handily last year with a score of 45-10.
